Today, as the world marks World Teachers’ Day under the theme “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” we reaffirm a simple truth: teachers are the chief architects of national development.
At Child Online Africa, we stand firmly with teachers across Ghana and the continent. We also issue a clear warning: politicizing education and the curriculum is dangerous. When learning is driven by political expediency rather than truth, critical thinking, emotional-social learning and shared values, we fail the children we claim to serve.
Politicized education undermines learning, erodes public trust, compromises teachers’ professionalism, and divides rather than unites. The 1966 UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers was clear: teachers must be protected and empowered not used to advance transient political agendas.
We therefore call on all stakeholders to:
