Aiphabet and Child Online Africa Launch AI Literacy Initiative on International Literacy Day 2025

Accra, Ghana / Middle Village, NY – September 8, 2025 – In celebration of International Literacy Day 2025, Aiphabet, an EdTech nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and digital learning opportunities, and Child Online Africa, a prominent nonprofit dedicated to promoting child online safety and digital empowerment across Africa, today announced the collaboration to bring AI Literacy to young people in Africa.

This groundbreaking program aims to equip children, educators, and communities with essential skills to navigate and thrive in an AI-driven world, promoting a new era of digital inclusion and ethical AI use.

Themed around this year's International Literacy Day focus on Literacy for a Sustainable Future, the AI Literacy initiative addresses the growing need for AI education as a core component of modern literacy. By combining Aiphabet's expertise in accessible AI education and learning tools with Child Online Africa's deep-rooted experience in child protection and digital rights in Africa, the program will deliver tailored curricula, interactive workshops, and online resources designed for young learners aged 13–18.

Key highlights of the AI Literacy initiative include:

  • A free AI education platform covering topics such as understanding AI basics, ethical considerations, data privacy, and creative applications of AI in everyday life.
  • Initial rollout in select schools across Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria, with plans for expansion to other African countries by 2026.
  • Virtual and in-person sessions to empower educators with the tools to integrate AI literacy into classrooms.
  • Public webinars, AI-themed storytelling sessions, and partnerships with local organizations to promote safe and inclusive digital environments.
  • Ongoing assessments to track improvements in digital skills, online safety awareness, and AI confidence among participants through a tailor-made platform for the two organizations.

AI is transforming how people learn, work, and connect, and true literacy in the 21st century must include the ability to understand and responsibly use these technologies. Aiphabet believes that its partnership with Child Online Africa represents a meaningful step toward bridging the digital divide, ensuring that children in Africa are not just consumers of AI but active, informed creators. Launching on International Literacy Day underscores the shared conviction that AI literacy is fundamental to building sustainable, equitable societies.

Awo Aidam Amenyah, Executive Director of Child Online Africa, noted:

“The AI Literacy initiative reflects our commitment to equipping African children and youth with the skills to thrive safely in a digital world. By aligning with UNESCO’s goals for International Literacy Day, we emphasize how literacy, including digital and AI forms, contributes directly to sustainable development.”
