Child Online Africa extends its heartfelt appreciation to every individual, organization, government representative, youth leader, journalist, academic, private sector partner and global ally who stood with the call for #AfricaEsafetyNow during this historic G20 summit.
Your voices, your solidarity and your advocacy amplified a message that Africa and the world could not ignore: our digital future must be safe, just and protective of all.
What We Achieved Together
Thanks to your collective support, the #AfricaEsafetyNow campaign has:
1. Elevated Digital Safety onto Global and Continental Agenda
For the first time at a G20 Summit held on African soil, digital safety, online protection and the rights of vulnerable users—especially children and women became part of the continental conversation. Leaders took note. Policymakers listened. We made it impossible to discuss Africa’s digital transformation without addressing digital safety.
2. Strengthened Momentum for the Africa eSafety Commission
Your advocacy helped shape a powerful message: Africa cannot continue without a dedicated, continental body to protect its people online. The campaign secured recognition from civil society, regional stakeholders and policymakers that a unified Africa eSafety Commission is not optional: it is urgent.
3. Mobilized Citizens Across the Continent
From Accra to Nairobi, Johannesburg to Dakar, Monrovia to Addis Ababa, Africans joined the call, shared stories, hosted conversations, and demanded action. This campaign showed that digital harm affects us all and that Africans are ready to protect themselves, their children, and their communities.
4. Put Vulnerable Voices at the Centre
The campaign uplifted the experiences of children, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and those living in fragile digital environments. It reminded the world that Africa’s digital revolution must leave no one unprotected.
Next Steps: A Call to ALL Africans
The movement for #AfricaEsafetyNow does not end with the G20 Summit. In fact, now is when the real work begins. We need every African to stay engaged and active.
1. Demand Accountability and Implementation
Call on your government, your regional leaders, and the African Union to support the establishment of the Africa eSafety Commission. Policies exist: but enforcement must now follow.
2. Promote Safe Online Behaviours
Every parent, teacher, caregiver, young person and community leader has a role:
3. Support Digital Rights and Protections for All
Advocate for strong laws, responsible tech innovation, and protections that include women, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
4. Hold Technology Companies to Higher Standards
Africans must insist that global and local tech platforms treat African users with the same seriousness they apply elsewhere. Demand transparency, accountability, quick response times and safe design practices.
5. Keep the Momentum Alive
Share the hashtag, organize community discussions, participate in national consultations, and join continental calls to action. A connected Africa must also be a protected Africa.
A Resilient, Safer Digital Africa Is Within Reach
The #AfricaEsafetyNow campaign has shown what is possible when Africa raises one unified voice.
We have built a movement.
We have shaped continental policy conversations.
And together, we can secure a digital environment where no child is exploited, no woman is silenced, no elderly person is defrauded, and no community is left vulnerable.
Child Online Africa thanks you.
Africa thanks you.
The next generation will thank you.
Let us continue: until every African is safe online.
